"There is a source of strength within each of us, that is influenced and inspired by nature."
Mountains to Sea Costa Rica is a boutique fitness and wellness retreat center boasting eco luxury villas that are also available for vacation rentals.
You will find us on 19 private acres surrounded by lush jungle and breathtaking views of the Talamanca Mountain Range and San Juan de Dios Valley. On site there are two villas, a therapeutic salt water pool with a waterfall, second story open air fitness oasis, hiking trails, a permaculture designed organic fruit forest with over 70 fruit trees, beautiful tropical landscaping, and plenty of places to relax, unplug and take it all in.
Our area is known for world class surf, some of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the country, miles of beaches, national parks and scenic rivers.
We are located in the southern zone of Costa Rica in the mountains above Playa Dominical, where the mountains meet the sea. You will find us at 1,300 feet elevation where we enjoy cooler temperatures and fresh breezes year round. We are a 15-20 minute scenic drive to Dominical, the closest beach.
Mountains to Sea is located 1.5km off the paved road behind a gated entrance. Both villas are newly constructed, boasting high-end finishes and open floor plans. There are five queen size beds and five full size beds between the two villas, making it possible for groups large or small to sleep comfortably during their stay. The attention to detail in both villas does not go unnoticed.
This is a full sized, 3 bedroom 2 bath home with a fully equipped kitchen, amazing views and fresh breezes. There is a spacious living and dinning area that opens up to the kitchen and bar top seating.
Each bedroom is equipped with its own AC unit. There is a master suite with a queen and full size bed and it’s own private bathroom.
This adorable and functional 2 bedroom 1 bath cozy home has a fully equipped kitchen and breathtaking mountain views. There is a breakfast nook/reading area inside and a 4 person dining table on the patio outside.

MEET THE CREATORS
Matt and Megan
relocated to the Dominical area from Charleston South Carolina in 2020. In search of a different lifestyle with plenty of surfing, hiking, fresh food, more down time and lots of nature! Both have been entrepreneurs and have a desire to create and share this lifestyle….
thus was born Mountains to Sea Costa Rica.
"I would definitely recommend Mountains to Sea to our friends, this experience was unforgettable. The perfect spot for any retreat...the hosts are wonderful and the property is beautiful! We had just the right amount of adventure and relaxation, can't wait to go back!"
Do I need a 4x4 vehicle?YES you do. We keep the dirt road to Mountains to Sea in good condition, but it is steep, there fore you will need a 4x4 vehicle. Also it will make your stay in our area easier and more convenient overall. We like Vamos rental car near the SJO airport.
Do you have Wi-Fi?Yes, we have high speed fiber optic internet in both villas and the fitness/pool area.
Where can I buy food? There is a grocery store about 10 minutes from us in our small town of Platanillo. There is also one in Dominical, 15-20 minutes away. There are small organic grocery stores in both towns as well. We have local farmers markets on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Where do I find restaurants?Dominical (about 15-20 minutes) has your closest restaurant options for all meals. If you wish to go a little further there are more in Uvita (about 40 minutes away). We also have a chefs kitchen on site if you are interested in hiring a private chef let us know and we can help you with that.
What is the best time of year to visit? There are two named season in Costa Rica, summer and winter, or green/rainy season and dry season. Summer generally runs from December-April with May-November being winter. May-July is kind of a transition time, usually with less tourists and cooler temperatures with out too much rain. Summer is "high season" in Costa Rica, the days are brighter, hotter and the waves are generally smaller in comparison to winter. So it all depends what you prefer!
What is the currency? Can I use the US dollar?Costa Rican currency is called colones, check the current EXCHANGE RATE here. You can exchange money in the airport, withdraw from an ATM, or go in a bank. However, most places accept US dollar, just be aware you might not get the current exchange rate at some places. You can also use all major credit cards where cards are accepted, which is most places but maybe a few restaurants and any kind of market, vendors, taxis, exc. Some credit cards have foreign transaction fees, check with your credit card provider for more information.
What is the deposit policy? For vacation rentals: 25% of the total amount is due upon booking, this is refundable up to 30 days prior to check-in date, after the 30 days the deposit is non-refundable. This can be paid via Venmo, Paypal or Zelle. A credit card is also required for a damage deposit but will NOT be charged unless there is damage to the property. The rest of the amount is due upon check-in and can be paid in the same way or with cash. For Retreats: $750 non-refundable deposit is a due upon booking the space. $3,000 is due 120 days prior to retreat start date. The remaining balance is due 60 days prior to start date.
What is your cancellation policy? For vacation rentals: cancel anytime up to 30 days prior to check-in date for a full refund. For Retreats: 50% of the $3,000 payment is refundable when canceled at least 90 days prior to start date. If the cancellation is made 89-30 days prior to the start date, a credit of $1,500 will be given towards another retreat and MUST be redeemed within 12 months of the cancellation date. 0% refund or credit is given if canceled 29 days or less before the retreat start date.
What airport should I fly into?San Jose International Airport (SJO) is the closest large airport, it is a 3.5 hour drive. If you wish you can get a puddle jumper from SJO to Quepos and then drive an hour to us. But the drive from SJO is not difficult, you can use google maps and check out the scenery of Costa Rica on the way.
Do I need any vaccines or health papers to enter Costa Rica? No, at this time there are no health requirements.
What do I need to bring?Depending on what you have planned here are some items you might like to have to help make your trip more enjoyable: swimwear, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, gym shoes, sandals, rain jacket, a long sleeve top for cooler mornings or evenings, a beach towel, cash, a credit card that doesn’t have foreign transaction fees, a SMALL purse or backpack, surfboard and wax, a book, your sense of adventure and a smile!
How do I use my cell phone in Costa Rica to make calls?Check with your provider before you arrive. Most companies charge a “International day pass” fee that is around $10 per day. If you are on Wi-Fi and have an iPhone you can use iMessage and Facetime audio/video to make calls. Also What’s App is a free app that most people use in Costa Rica to send messages and make calls.
